Important finding was that rate of superoxide production decreases when the Q pool is fully reduced, is maximal when around half-reduced. This suggests if a semiquinone is involved its formation requires oxidized quinone. This could be by electron transfer from reduced cytochrome b back to oxidized quinone at the Qo site, consistent with a concerted reaction involving no semiquinone for the forward reaction at Qo.
